Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to Concert/Symphony Band or Wind Ensemble! I am overcome with excitement about the new school year with you and your child. I look forward to excelling to new heights as an ensemble and as individual musicians.
In Band this year, we will explore music theory, history, fundamentals, and various techniques. The students will acquire the skills to play Grade 4 music and audition for All-District Band on their instrument.
Students are asked to bring the following supplies to class everyday:
· Instrument (in proper case w/ all parts)
· Value Oil/Cork Grease
· Cleaning Swab
· Reeds (if reed instrument)
· Folder (provided)
· Music (provided)
My homework policy is very simple. Practice! Practice! Practice! Every once in a while there will be an assignment to do on music theory or music history but it will not be too much to handle.
My grading policy:
10%- Homework
20%- Participation
30%- Performances
15%- Quizzes
25%- Tests
I grade on a 7 point grading scale
100%- 93% A
92%- 85% B
84%-77% C
76%- 70% D
69% and below F
We will have 4 performances this year, 2 per semester. I urge every parent/guardian to attend and to bring friends and love ones as well. Your attendance to performances is very important and I hope that you make it a priority to attend as many of the performances as possible.
Throughout the year, I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. You can call me at (704) 606-7288, send me a letter with your student to school, or e-mail me at [email protected]. Furthermore, I am looking forward to a great year with your student! Thank you in advance for your concern, support, and cooperation throughout the school year.
Sincerely,
Devin White
